Lira, Uganda — September 22, 2026 — A prominent international non-governmental organization, Muslim Charity UK, has concluded a strategic visit to Erute County South in Lira District, aimed at strengthening development, unity, and empowerment within the Lango sub-region's Muslim community.
The high-level delegation traveled to northern Uganda following an official invitation from the Member of Parliament for Erute County South and Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Engola Sam. The strategic tour focused on fostering interfaith unity and assessing long-term socio-economic and infrastructural development needs in the area.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the constituency, Minister Engola's political assistant, Walter Ongenyo, expressed profound gratitude to Muslim Charity UK for honoring the invitation. He noted that the visit directly addresses the pressing development appeals raised by the local Muslim community.
During the tour, the UK-based team held fruitful discussions with Lango Muslim leaders and local heads from Erute South to map out structured collaboration areas.
Ifan Patput, the head of the Muslim Charity UK delegation, highly commended Minister Sam Engola, describing him as a visionary leader with a deep commitment to humanity, recalling their productive preliminary meetings held at the Minister's office in Kampala.
"As Muslim Charity UK, our goal is to build a lasting bond with the Muslim community in Lango and the wider population of Erute South," Patput stated. He emphasized that their development interventions are inclusive and designed to benefit residents regardless of their religious affiliations.
In a significant development during the engagement, local Muslim leaders officially handed over land titles intended for the construction of institutional mosques. Patput assured the community that Muslim Charity UK would review the proposals with a commitment to covering up to 70 percent of the construction costs.
Furthermore, to address urgent healthcare gaps, the charity committed to donating a brand-new ambulance to Erute County South to assist in the emergency transportation of patients.
Dr. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, the former Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs and current Chairperson of Lisa Supporting and Sustaining Lives Uganda, also attended the event and praised Minister Engola's leadership. She assured the residents that the community's concerns would be systematically addressed.
